Worship God

Memory verse: Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him (John 14:21)

Yesterday you learned that you come to know God by experience at His initiative. You learned that a Hebrew name described a person’s character and nature. The name was closely associated with the person and their presence. Thus, to call on someone’s name was to seek their presence. God’s name is majestic and worthy of our praise. David wrote about the majesty of God’s name when he said, “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. You have set your glory above the heavens” (Psalm 8:1). Acknowledging God’s name amounts to recognizing who God is. Calling on His name indicates that you are seeking His presence. Praising His name is praising Him.

Seeing God’s names in Scripture can call you to worship Him. To worship is to reverence and honor God, to acknowledge Him worthy of your praise. Spend this day worshipping God through His names. The psalms are rich in their instructions to direct your worship toward God through His names.

Read these Scriptures and meditate on ways you can direct your worship toward God through His name

Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face, who exalt in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted (Psalm 89: 15-16)

Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day (Psalm 96:2)

Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name (Psalm 86:11)

For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name (Psalm 33:21)

I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High (Psalm 7:17)

In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever (Psalm 44:8)

Spend the remainder of your devotion time in worship

Use these ways to worship God. The names direct your attention to Him, who He is, and what He does. Praise Him for who He is. Thank Him for what He has done. Glorify Him. Love and adore Him. Seek and trust Him. Sing to Him. Take as much time as you like for this period of worship. Make this a meaningful time to experience your love relationship with the Lord.
