  9. How are people attacked by the devil?

    • When they are deceived by him (1 Chronicles 21:1, Job 1:16, 2 Corinthians 4:4, Matthew 16:22-23, 1 Timothy 4:1-2)

      Jesse Penn Lewis writes:

      The man is deceived if he is a hearer, and not a doer of the Word of God (James 1:22)

      He is deceived if he says he has no sin (1 John 1:8)

      He is deceived when he thinks himself to be "something" when he is nothing (Galatians 6:3)

      He is deceived when he thinks himself to be wise with the wisdom of this world. (1 Corinthians 3:18)

      He is deceived by seeming to be religious, when an unbridled tongue reveals his true condition (James 1:26).

      He is deceived, if he thinks he will sow, and not reap what he sows (Galatians 6:7)

      He is deceived, if he thinks the unrighteous will inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9)

      He is deceived , if he thinks that contact with sin will not have its effect (1 Corinthians 15:33) upon him

    • When they give up ground to him through sin (Ephesians 4:26-30)

    • When the are driven to self harm (Mark 5:1-13)

  10. Should a Christian fear demons? (Luke 10:17-19; 1 John 4:4; James 4:7; Ephesians 6:10-18; Matthew 12:28-29)

  11. How can a Christian recognize the presence or activity of demons? (The gift of discerning of spirits is the God-given gift to recognize the presence or activities of demons. It helps you discern or distinguish whether some activity or presence is from God’s Spirit or some demonic spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:10)

GLOSSARY

WITCH:  One who practices black magic and sorcery.

WARLOCK: A male witch

OCCULT:  Secret, hidden, relating to witchcraft.

WITCHCRAFT:  The power or practices of witches.

MEDIUM:  One through whom messages are supposedly sent from the dead.

CONSULTER WITH A FAMILIAR SPIRIT:  A medium

SPIRITUALISM:  The belief that the dead survive as spirits that can communicate with the living.

FAMILIAR SPIRIT:  An evil spirit that a person has become familiar with.

WIZARD:  A warlock

ENCHANTER:  One who interprets omens

OMENS:  A sign or happening supposed to foretell a future event, either good or evil.

SORCERY:  From the word “pharmakia”, the practice of witchcraft and occultism in association with drugs.

OBSERVER OF TIMES:  Astrologer

SOOTHSAYER:  One who claims to predict the future.

DIVINATION:  The ability to foretell future events or discover hidden information.

NECROMANCY:  Means calling up the dead or foretelling the future by communicating with the dead.

SÉANCE:  A meeting to practice necromancy.

CHARMER:  Witch.

MAGIC:  A forbidden art of bringing about results beyond human power by help from evil spirits.

CURSE:  A hex or evil spell calling for harm or bad luck to an individual.
